How to use a salary range worksheet

Match the work and hiring market first. Choose a midpoint that reflects your pay policy, then set a minimum and maximum. The optional width control expresses a percentage on either side of the midpoint; it does not calculate a market distribution. Compa-ratio compares an entered amount with your chosen midpoint. Range position compares that amount with your chosen minimum and maximum.

Annual budgets multiply each pay amount by planned headcount. Hourly budgets also use your entered paid hours and paid weeks. This worksheet excludes employer taxes, benefits, overtime premiums, bonus and equity. An occupation wage reference may include commissions, tips and incentive pay, so review the measurement before using it to plan base salaries.
